Please Donate £25 Or Any Other Denomination You Can Afford To Help Garment Workers in Bangladesh

This week I received yet another e-mail and a very important one this time requesting donations for helping garment workers in Bangladesh who were very adversely affected due to the Rana Plaza Factory Collapse that took place last year.

Dear Miss Biswas

The Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh was the most deadly disaster in the history of the garment industry.  Over 1,100 people were killed, most of them women. That was the last day Halima* saw her sister alive.  Her lifeless body was pulled from the rubble 5 days later. She was 4 months pregnant.

Please make donation of £25 or, whatever you can afford and help us to fight for women like Halima, so they can work in safe environments with fair pay.

Take action

No one should die making the clothes we wear. No one should be forced to work an 80-hour week and be expected to survive on a pitiful 15 pence an hour, not even enough to buy a small loaf of bread to feed their children. Thousands of women, like Halima are struggling to make a living, forced to work in appalling conditions with pitiful pay.

Fighting the high cost of fashion, together your support today could help us to provide workers like Halima the information and skills they need to negotiate better conditions, or could help pay towards the costs of legal fees to take action against abusive employers.

War on Want has worked in partnership with the National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF) for many years, fighting for the rights of garment workers like Halima in Bangladesh, securing important victories in their struggle for a decent future.

And the pressure works. Last year, with War on Want’s help, garment workers in Bangladesh won an amazing 80 per cent increase in their minimum wage. Thanks to public pressure from War on Want campaigners and others, over 200 companies have now signed up to a legally-binding agreement to make their supplier factories safe.

Garment workers, like Halima, in Bangladesh and around the world still risk their health and safety for a wage that they can't live on - we can help them fight for a better life, with your support.

We can’t help them without you.  Please make a donation today.

Thank you.

With my very best wishes,

John Hilary
