I am reviewing a song from my much raved about album from Pink Floyd,'The Final Cut'.I honestly love most of the songs and the conscience behind,which has enough potential to lift an individual's sense of morality in turn.

They disembarked in '45

And no-one spoke and no-one smiled

There were to many spaces in the line.

Gathered at the cenotaph

All agreed with the hand on heart

To sheath the sacrificial Knifes.

But now

She stands upon Southampton dock

With her handkerchief

And her summer frock clings

To her wet body in the rain.

In quiet desperation knuckles

White upon the slippery reins

She bravely waves the boys Goodbye again.

And still the dark stain spreads between

His shoulder blades.

A mute reminder of the poppy fields and graves.

And when the fight was over

We spent what they had made.

But in the bottom of our hearts

We felt the final cut.

"Southampton Dock" is a song from Pink Floyd's 1983 album, The Final Cut.In World War II, many soldiers departed from Southampton to fight against the Germans. In the eighties, Southampton was again used as a departure base, this time for the Falklands War. The song describes a woman who waves the soldiers "Goodbye again".

Song Review

The melody/tune of the song is nothing special,it's almost like words spoken with a mild,melodious undertone helped with the deepest notes on a bass guitar.

 The first line opens with a referral to 1945,when the Second World War was ravaging nature,cities,villages and people worldwide.The song speaks of a woman who had bid adieu to her men associated with her life and the war,with the latter as soldiers.The imagery within the lyrics is beautiful and ballad-like.It is indeed very classic,touchy and yet speaks of an incident that perhaps took place in a million places at the time of the war.The line "When the fight was over.we spent what they had made" imparts reverence to those who sacrificed their lives for their country.The second time the woman says goodbye to perhaps the next generation of men associated with her bravely,to let them to go fight for the Falklands War.

The lyrics are perfect,tune is an issue,yet the conscience covers the rest of it.
