War on Want BBC Radio 4 Appeal

I received an e-mail today about the War on Want BBC Radio 4 Appeal this Sunday (tomorrow,i.e 20th September) regarding increasing the wages of sweat shop workers in Bangladesh, which was a very successful movement of the valiant dissidents last year. Please do not miss the event,it is an important note to watch for all dissidents worldwide.
All our support and power to you.

Dear Miss Biswas,

As a valued War on Want supporter, we wanted you to be the first to know about our upcoming BBC Radio 4 Appeal on Sunday 20 September at 7:56am and again at 9:26pm.

The appeal is voiced by Vanessa Redgrave and highlights the plight of garment workers in Bangladesh, and the work War on Want continues to do support them in their fight for safe working conditions and fair pay. Please listen out for it.

The Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh was the most deadly disaster in the history of the garment industry.  Over 1,100 people were killed, most of them women.

No one should die making the clothes we wear. No one should be forced to work an 80-hour week and be expected to survive on a pitiful 15 pence an hour, not even enough to buy a small loaf of bread.

Last year, with the support of people like you, we helped to secure an 80% increase in the minimum wage for garment workers in Bangladesh. But there is more to be done. Thousands of women still face long hours and unsafe conditions, without a wage they can live on.

Please remember to listen to the appeal on Sunday 20 September at 7:54 am or 9:26 pm on BBC Radio 4.

With my very best wishes,

John Hilary,

Executive director
