English Version

  • The first question is about India's best read travel magazine,'Bhromon'. Why did you even think of such a venture? It was not predominantly existent in people's minds in this country as much as it is in the Western world or in other parts of Asia.

Well,as a teenager,I was always interested to see what I couldn't find in my immediate surroundings.I loved to imagine meeting new people, travelling to unknown places, and I was experiencing new found joy and freedom in the imagination itself. When I was a little kid,I settled out to travel the sea in a boat...I have written about this somehwere in 'Chhelebela' magazine. You could get a read if you wish to.I am actually bored of this question,a lot of people ask this same thing.

  • So,you were born with the traveller instinct? But you are a director,an author,a photographer and a painter, too! How do you manage all of these things together? This is amazing, indeed.

Is anyone ever born a traveller? I am not sure. I had an urge. To see what lies outside. That is what lets you see what lies inside.I wanted to get across limits, erase demarcation lines and this was all because of that urge.
I was imaginative,so I just let my mind draw all that it could from this gift and I just let myself get indulged into it.That was how it happened.

  • You have travelled a lot around the world. What is it all about? Is it only about beauty and magic? Or is there still a convincing gap that exists, keeps on existing?
Should children be told all the secrets?

  • Is this a secret, after all?The core of everything isn't existent in materialism itself. It is going beyond limits, may be.If we keep judging benefits from everything around us,they will loose their beauty, rather our eyes will forget to recognise beauty. It would have been a pleasure to hear you answer this but if you want to skip this, there is obviously no compulsion.

Uh - this entire thing is absolutely endless. You cannot reach the end, ever. The more you see it,the more you intensify your urge to see it further. But you never know what, how much further is,how far it really goes. The stretches are infinite. That is the gap. It is all about the mystery of this gap,you know.

Children know things so deep and heavy today! I was sitting on a field, near White Cheesewood trees in an evening in late autumn and the essence was convincingly that of sorrow. It took me half a lifetime to realise that it was White Cheesewood blossoms, after all...

  • Autumn evenings brings into the mind a strange hollowness, everytime. And it is nearly impossible to understand it.I loved this answer.I have been asking nearly everything related to travel until now. But there are more questions to be asked.Let's come to literature.I can't do but ask you about 'Hiru Dakat'.You get to experience the same thrill, awe, laughters and tears when you go through 'Hiru Fakat' just like you do when you're going through Robin Hood. Why did you write about him at the first place?
I do not know if you can write fiction after analysing why you are writing it.It wasn't an all of a sudden incicent.I had written a poem called 'Dilu Dakat' (Dil meaning 'heart' and dakat meaning 'dacoit') in a children's magazine once. This was the same song that was included in the book 'Hiru Dakat'.Many, many days later, when all the sufferings, all the pain, all the wrongs happening around me were crowding my mind,he began insisting me to write his story. He is the one who got me to write this!
Even while writing 'Sada Ghora' (Or The White Horse),it was the pain that I could feel through me,the pain that penetrated through humanity around the world.

  •  Every literateur is a philosopher somewhere inside. They can see what is to happen in the near or even at the furthest ends of the 'future' that exists in us. Owing to all the terrible wrongs that are happening in the world right now,can you figure out a way to illumination? Can you see where this leads to?
Maybe the poets and authors all create whatever they create to illuminate,in the end.In the end that we know as,you know the conventional end. May be this illumination is the path through the darkness.May be this drives away darkness and lets us see through.
It is quite uninteresting to talk in so short about such a large issue. I think the dedication that you use to create something creative is all that lights up your mind. The more light you have, the more you can love.May be this love is what, after all, will win over war one day...This universal love is what we need.

  • Let me ask you the last question, then. How do you perceive yourself? As an author,a painter,a poet,a philosopher or a traveller, after all?

Either I am each one of these,or I am a big nothing-at-all.

  • Thank You so much for lending me this much of your precious time.I am really grateful to have conducted this interview. Thanks again.

Sure. You can ask me questions whenever you have them in the coming days.Greetings to you.
