Song in Focus: 'Stars' by Katrina Parker

I was excited about this song for particularly two reasons - First, about the subject and the pretty cover picture and secondly, the utterly sultry, delightful voice that Parker has. When I delved deeper into the song though, it reminded me of the Atlas Project pursued by Sleeping at Last (Ryan O'Neal).

There are tons of reasons to adore minimalist, wholesome music right now. Musicians like O'Neal, Karen O and a part of Gregory Alan Isakov and Samuel Erwin Beam's work have actually been making amazing music in this aspect, on what I would collectively call a whole new genre, or even anti-genre from a certain perspective. This somewhere might even be associated with our distant, subconscious ideation of spaces. The more universal entropy pursues its own self, the more expansion we are bound to endorse, and music like this could very well be a materialisation of such a notion.

The song, on another note also has a smooth, fable-like vibe to it. As if it would be the most sane of things if flying unicorns landed on a silhouette valley in the midst of it. This adds gradient to the both the singer's capability in communication the listener(s) and the song in its entirety as a song.

Katrina reminds us of classic Rosanne Cash with a sultrier undertone. She was a semi-finalist on Season 2 of The Voice and is set to premiere on Billboard 8/19. She also looks so similar to Adele that I almost mistook them for twins for ten microseconds! 😛

There is not one thing that I could possibly label as a flaw about the song. Parker has an ah-mazing voice, she is soulful all along, that shows in the performance and the song as a song is beautiful ; you can listen to it when you are feeling blue and it can instantly make you feel tender if you are feeling sullen. There is something very magical about this and she also has a remarkably attractive accent. Would be keen on getting to hear more from her in the near future!
